The woman sitting on the ground was feeding the pigeons, and I stopped for a second trying to decide if I should talk to her. As I stood there, a girl walked up to her and handed her a latte. They held each other’s hand for what seemed like a minute and exchanged heartfelt words I couldn’t quite hear. I thought they might know each other, so when the girl finally continued on her way down the street, I ran after her. “Oh, I don’t know her,“ she said. “I just know that every time I do something good, it comes back to me. It always does.”

“I see a vision of a great rucksack revolution thousands or even millions of young Americans wandering around with rucksacks, going up to mountains to pray, making children laugh and old men glad, making young girls happy and old girls happier, all of ’em Zen Lunatics who go about writing poems that happen to appear in their heads for no reason and also by being kind and also by strange unexpected acts keep giving visions of eternal freedom to everybody and to all living creatures.” ~ Gary Snyder

“Every day, think as you wake up, today I am fortunate to be alive, I have a precious human life, I am not going to waste it. I am going to use all my energies to develop myself, to expand my heart out to others; to achieve enlightenment for the benefit of all beings. I am going to have kind thoughts towards others, I am not going to get angry or think badly about others. I am going to benefit others as much as I can.” ~ Dalai Lama XIV

“We want to change this world and it starts with us. The way we think, the way we speak, the way we act towards ourselves and towards others, because when we’ve got that love for ourselves, we’re going to look at each other no matter what color, no matter what gender, no matter what mistakes the other person has made and say “I love you.” We want change for this world and it starts with our hearts.” ~ Common
