If you were to cut open a chrysalis as the butterfly develops, you might expect to find a partly formed butterfly inside. But this isn’t the case. Inside is an unrecognizable “mush” – the gray protoplasm that will reconstruct itself and ultimately emerge as a butterfly. This ugly sticky stuff has all the elements necessary to create great beauty. It just takes time. We need to decide that it’s okay for us to be in this unsure, uncomfortable place. In fact, most of the time it’s exactly where we need to be. It is a necessary period of growth in the achievement of any significant, life-altering change. Step into the mush.

“The illusion of freedom will continue as long as it’s profitable to continue the illusion. At the point where the illusion becomes too expensive to maintain, they will just take down the scenery, they will pull back the curtains, they will move the tables and chairs out of the way and you will see the brick wall at the back of the theater.” ~Frank Zappa
