“Students who acquire large debts putting themselves through school are unlikely to think about changing society. When you trap people in a system of debt, they can’t afford the time to think. Tuition fee increases are a “disciplinary technique,” and by the time students graduate, they are not only loaded with debt, but have also internalized the disciplinarian culture. This makes them efficient components of the consumer economy.” ~Noam Chomsky

I have to reblog this as it is the utter truth. I could and should add so much yet, as is my style, I won’t. Soon…
This definitively expands to everyone. The more debt you acquire, the more you are controlled by that debt. Student loans just start the process earlier. As we move from using actually cash to atm & credit cards, it makes things even more abstract. As much as cash money is an abstraction, digital money takes it to a further level.
But programs like MIT’s Open CourseWare, does give me a measure of hope when it comes to controlling knowledge. http://ocw.mit.edu/index.htm Peace, xx
Thanks for the link! I will definitely check it out. Much love!!
